"Northouse offers comprehensive coverage of leadership that spans decades of classic and contemporary approaches. He effectively translates the evidence-base in a way that students can put into practice. I have always been impressed with the balance in his presentation of leadership theories, offering a section on strengths and criticisms in each chapter. If you are looking for a book that encourages critical thinking about leadership, this is the one.""Leadership: Theory and Practice and its accompanying resources are exceptional. The text is an essential resource for faculty and for students at the undergrad, graduate, executive education, and doctoral levels. There’s nothing out there that even come close in terms of quality and comprehensiveness. Don’t teach leadership at any level without it." Peter G. Northouse, PhD, is Professor Emeritus of Communication in the School of Communication at Western Michigan University. In addition to publications in professional journals, he is the author of Leadership: Theory and Practice (now in its eighth edition) and Introduction to Leadership: Concepts and Practice (now in its fourth edition) and coauthor of Leadership Case Studies in Education (now in its second edition) and Health Communication: Strategies for Health Professionals (now in its third edition). His scholarly and curricular interests include models of leadership, leadership assessment, ethical leadership, and leadership and group dynamics. For more than 30 years, he has taught courses in leadership, interpersonal communication, and organizational communication to both undergraduate and graduate students. Currently, he is a consultant and lecturer on trends in leadership research, leadership development, and leadership education. He holds a doctorate in speech communication from the University of Denver, and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in communication education from Michigan State University. To learn more about Peter Northouse, his SAGE books, and testimonials from leadership educators, click here: http://www.sagepub.com/northouse To learn more about the 8th Edition of the market-leading Leadership: Theory and Practice and a sneak peek of the new Followership chapter, click here: https://ift.tt/2Chpdjt

Adopted at more than 1600 institutions in 89 countries and translated into 13 different languages, this market-leading text successfully combines an academically robust account of the major theories and models of leadership with an accessible style and special emphasis on how leadership theory can inform leadership practice. Peter G. Northouse uses a consistent structure for each chapter, allowing students to easily compare and contrast the various theories. Case studies and questionnaires provide students with practical examples and opportunities to deepen their personal understanding of their own leadership.

I have really enjoyed this textbook up until this point I have really enjoyed this textbook up until this point. It is thoughtful, well organized and a good general survey of leadership styles. I have also found it very balanced in the presentation of each leadership style, simply stating the precepts and the challenges with each style. This is a Keeper Most of the textbooks that I get from classes I resale but this book is a keeper. If you have any questions regarding leadership styles or methods this book gives great examples and details. It presents real life scenarios and how different leadership styles play in those scenarios. Northouse does a great job of explaining leaderships skills vs. leadership traits. It explains effective leadership skills even if you don't have the traits of leadership. Not the worst leadership text I have had to read Northouse uses this text to introduce many common leadership theories and ways that you can put these theories into everyday life. While the pages are not the easiest to read, it does provide in depth insight into some of the many common practices of leadership. Highly reccomend even if it is not a required reading as it was for my leadership minor.
