An Amazon Best Book of March 2019: As far as celebrity goes, Alex Honnold’s seems a bit unlikely; self-possessed practitioners of niche sports, performed in the hardest-to-reach corners of the Earth, usually keep to the edges of the mainstream. But much has changed over the last decade: Drones, adventure cameras, and the internet have allowed armchair adventurers and other lookie-loos unprecedented access to the farthest frontiers, as well as the daredevils who push them. And with E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin's Free Solo—the Academy Award-winning ride-along with Honnold on his rope-free climb up Yosemite's El Capitan and its 3,000 feet of vertical granite—well, that’s the sort of thing that’ll make you famous. On assignment for National Geographic, writer Mark Synnott also covered Honnold in Yosemite, and the resulting book,The Impossible Climb, is a must-read for anyone curious about Honnold’s background, personality, and motivations. Synnott shadowed the enigmatic climber for months as he prepared, deliberated, and occasionally wavered over the project. He even followed him up a wall on occasion—Synnott also happens to be a professional climber (yes, that is a thing), and his first-hand experience makes his account much more than a summary of an unprecedented, previously unthinkable feat. Along with Synnott’s recollections of his own first ascents and harrowing adventures with Honnold, Chin, and other legends of the sport, he surveys Yosemite’s climbing culture from the “golden age” rivalry between big-wall pioneers Royal Robbins and Warren Harding, to latter-day risk-takers like Dean Potter, who push the limits of extreme sports, often at the cost of their lives. When asked why anyone would test their fate against a mountain, George Mallory famously said “Because it’s there.” The question is ultimately unanswerable, but The Impossible Climb gives the rest of us a firmer hold, even as we watch from a safer elevation. As a climber might say, “This book goes.” --Jon Foro, Amazon Book ReviewPraise for The Impossible Climb“Enthralling . . . gripping . . . Much more than just an account of Honnold's mind-bending climb: it is a story of the complex friendship between the two men. . . .  This compelling book reads like a thriller as it ranges over the rarefied world of extreme climbing. It is a portrait of fascinating people and of an extraordinary place, the Yosemite Valley.”—The Daily Mail“Fast-paced and enjoyable.”—The Wall Street Journal“With the possible exception of the lunar landings, free-soloing El Capitan may rank as one of the most audacious—and terrifying—things a human being has ever done. Synnott’s narrative plasters you on a 3,000-foot granite cliff and doesn’t let you go until the climb is done. It is one of the most compelling accounts of a climb and the climbing ethos that I’ve ever read.” —Sebastian Junger, author of Tribe, War, and The Perfect Storm “The fascinating story behind an unprecedented feat. Mark Synnott has built something thoughtful and tense by leaning on his keenly observant presence in the moment and his decades of high-level experience. It’s a compelling narrative confidently told, one that will resonate no matter whether you’re a hardcore climber or someone who climbs nothing but stairs.”—The Maine Edge“An engaging read cover to cover—delightful, shocking, thrilling, saddening, and motivating. Each chapter deepens the larger story of struggle and awe within the adventurer’s life.” —New Hampshire Magazine“Synnott adds depth, intimacy, and a hint of fear to Honnold’s climb; more importantly, he adds context to the historical feat. . . . Through firsthand accounts and thorough reporting, Synnott provides a vertiginous window into the world of climbers at the top of the sport.”—Paste Magazine“Bracing . . . brings Honnold’s epic, rope-free ascent to vivid life.”—Harper's Bazaar“A thrills-and-chills—and occasional spills—view of the mad heroes of free climbing . . . Fans of mountaineering will find this a winner.” —Kirkus Reviews“Readers will pick up this for Honnold but will be equally engrossed by Synnott’s own adventures and writing.” —Library Journal“Yes, The Impossible Climb is the gripping story of the most perilous rock ascent of all time—but it’s much more than that. In seamlessly fusing memoir, reporting, social history, climbing lore, technical expertise, and intimate glimpses of his tribe, Mark Synnott has given us a kind of epic of life on the edge. Even readers who have never set toe to rock are going to find themselves glued to this insanely brilliant account of extreme athletic ambition and endurance.”  —David Laskin, author of The Children’s Blizzard “Mark Synnott's The Impossible Climb is to climbing what William Finnegan's Barbarian Days is to surfing.” —John Long, founder of the Stonemasters“Immensely enjoyable. Tapping his own impressive mountaineering resume, Mark Synnott dives deep into the rebellious counterculture of extreme climbing to get inside the head of Alex Honnold, the planet's foremost rock climber. What motivated Honnold to free climb El Capitan without a rope? 'Because it's there' doesn't come close to explaining it. Synnott's The Impossible Climb does.” —Andy Hall, author of Denali's Howl

A deeply reported insider perspective of Alex Honnold’s historic achievement and the culture and history of climbing.

“One of the most compelling accounts of a climb and the climbing ethos that I've ever read.”—Sebastian Junger

In Mark Synnott’s unique window on the ethos of climbing, his friend Alex Honnold’s astonishing free solo ascent of El Capitan’s 3,000 feet of sheer granite is the central act. When Honnold topped out at 9:28 A.M. on June 3, 2017, having spent fewer than four hours on his historic ascent, the world gave a collective gasp. The New York Times described it as “one of the great athletic feats of any kind, ever.” Synnott’s personal history of his own obsession with climbing since he was a teenager—through professional climbing triumphs and defeats, and the dilemmas they render—makes this a deeply reported, enchanting revelation about living life to the fullest. What are we doing if not an impossible climb?

Synnott delves into a raggedy culture that emerged decades earlier during Yosemite’s Golden Age, when pioneering climbers like Royal Robbins and Warren Harding invented the sport that Honnold would turn on its ear. Painting an authentic, wry portrait of climbing history and profiling Yosemite heroes and the harlequin tribes of climbers known as the Stonemasters and the Stone Monkeys, Synnott weaves in his own experiences with poignant insight and wit: tensions burst on the mile-high northwest face of Pakistan’s Great Trango Tower; fellow climber Jimmy Chin miraculously persuades an official in the Borneo jungle to allow Honnold’s first foreign expedition, led by Synnott, to continue; armed bandits accost the same trio at the foot of a tower in the Chad desert . . .

The Impossible Climb is an emotional drama driven by people exploring the limits of human potential and seeking a perfect, choreographed dance with nature. Honnold dared far beyond the ordinary, beyond any climber in history. But this story of sublime heights is really about all of us. Who doesn’t need to face down fear and make the most of the time we have?

A strange book I wanted to like this book, after seeing Free Solo, and reading Alex Honnold's account, as well as Tommy Caldwell's book on the Dawn Wall climb. But this book is a strange mishmash of stuff, including some history of Yosemite climbing, and a lot about the author's preoccupation with his own mortality , as well as his relationship with an earlier superstar, Alex Lowe. It also has an oddly chosen group of unrelated photos, very few of which are of Alex Honnold or even of El Capitan or Yosemite. The author is a good writer and may have interesting stories to tell, but this book seems like a misguided attempt to ride the bandwagon of Free Solo. I very rarely write critical reviews, but feel almost as though this book is marketed under false pretenses.Title doesn't match up with contents of book After watching the documentary 'Free Solo' and seeing the title of this book, I thought it would be a more detailed insight into Alex Honnold's climb up El Cap. But this book is foremost about the author and his climbing, followed by the history of climbing in general and the previous generations of climbers before Alex, and merely sprinkled with some details about Alex. In fact, the amount of pages dedicated to Alex's actual free solo account up El Cap are only a few pages at the very end of the book. Maybe if you're a climber (I am not) this book would be more interesting. Or maybe if you know the author and want to know more about him, it would be more interesting. But if you want to know more about Alex Honnold and his free solo of El Cap, just stick with the documentary or read his own book 'Alone on the Wall'. I also didn't think the author painted a very flattering image of Alex Honnold, not that I know Alex, but the documentary projects a more flattering image of Alex than this book. (It also references at least a dozen times about Alex and his bowel movements which is just TMI in my opinion.) After finishing the book, it just felt like the author was capitalizing (riding the coat tails perhaps?) on Alex's famed climb up El Cap seeing as the book came out not long after the documentary was released.

Title: A Delicate Touch (A Stone Barrington Novel) Pdf
Stone Barrington uncovers a societal minefield in the exhilarating new adventure from #1 New York Times-bestselling author Stuart Woods.

When an old acquaintance reaches out to Stone Barrington requesting assistance, the job seems easy enough. She needs an expert in an esoteric field, someone with both the knowledge and careful dexterity to solve a puzzle. But the solution to one small problem blows the lid open on a bigger scandal going back decades, and involving numerous prominent New Yorkers who would prefer the past stay buried.

With this explosive information in-hand, Stone Barrington is caught between a rock and a hard place, his only options either to play it safe to the detriment of others, or to see justice done and risk fatal exposure. But when it comes to Stone Barrington, danger is usually just around the corner . . . so he may as well throw caution to the wind.

Too Political for me I have read every book up to this point and I love the Stone Barrington character. I did not even finish this one. I am done.Cookie Cutter Typical Stone Barrington book, cookie cutter. Stone meets woman, Stone has great sex with woman, over and over again. Someone is trying to kill Stone or the woman he is having a carnal relationship with, stir and repeat. I one time I read the entire works of OHenry, it got so i could deduce the rest of the short story and how it would end after no more than 5 pages. I can do the same with a Stone Barrington book, i just have to wait until they introduce his latest conquest.Big Mistake! I read to be entertained not to have someone's political views shoved sown my throat! One of this author's previous books was the same way - the author's political views wrapped into one of his books. I vowed that I would only give him one more chance and then that would be it for me. So he now had his one more chance. I got half way through the book, realized that I was, once again, having his political opinions thrown in my face, and threw the book in the garbage without finishing it! This now the 3rd author that I have stopped reading for this very same issue. There are two others on my list at present and I will wait and see what their next offering has in store for me! Books should be neutral so that they appeal to all types of readers. Well, this author just lost all of my business!

Title: Night Shift Pdf
Author: Stephen King
Published Date: 2011

“A master storyteller.” —Los Angeles Times“Eerie. . . . Ought to chill the cockles of many a heart.” —Chicago Tribune“A master. . . . [King] will catch you in his web and reach you at an elemental level where there is no defense.” —The Cincinnati Enquirer“Stephen King has built a literary genre of putting ordinary people in the most terrifying situations. . . . he’s the author who can always make the improbable so scary you'll feel compelled to check the locks on the front door.” —The Boston Globe “Peerless imagination.” —The Observer (London) Stephen King is the author of more than fifty books, all of them worldwide bestsellers. Among his most recent are Full Dark, No Stars; Under the Dome; Just After Sunset; Duma Key; Lisey’s Story; Cell; and the concluding novels in the Dark Tower saga: Wolves of the Calla, Song of Susannah, and The Dark Tower. His acclaimed nonfiction book On Writing is also a bestseller. In 2003, he was awarded the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, and in 2007 he received the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America. He lives in Maine with his wife, novelist Tabitha King.

Night Shift—Stephen King’s first collection of stories—is an early showcase of the depths that King’s wicked imagination could plumb.  In these 20 tales, we see mutated rats gone bad (“Graveyard Shift”); a cataclysmic virus that threatens humanity (“Night Surf,” the basis for The Stand); a smoker who will try anything to stop (“Quitters, Inc.”); a reclusive alcoholic who begins a gruesome transformation (“Gray Matter”); and many more.  This is Stephen King at his horrifying best.

Night Shift is a collection of twenty tales of ghouly delight by Stephen Kinig Stephen King and I both turn the dreaded age of 70 years old this year! If that is not scary enough I decided to plunge into a reading of many of King's classic novels and short stories. Night Shift is the first of his story collections . It was published in 1976. The tales hold up well and will be read well into the future. Among the stories:Graveyard Shift-Mutant Rats run on a rampage of murder and horror deep within the confines of an old and decaying buildingThe Mangler;A machine possessed by evil goes on the rampage in a laundry.Trucks-Trucks without their drivers unite in an evil confederacy against humanity.Sometimes they Come Back-A group of murderers return to a classroom to torment a man whose brother had been murdered by the returned students many years before the story begins.Battleground-Toy soldiers run wild and attack a man.The Lawnmower Man-A worker for the mythical god Pan destroys a suburban homeowner with his mad mowingQuitters Inc.-You will never pick up another cigarette after this story!Children of the Corn-A famous story about children with evil eyes in the cornfields of middle America. The edition I read contained a good introduction to King by John MacDonald and also a fine prologue written by King. Curl up and enjoy this early but outstanding book of short stories!Stephen King is excellent at short stories, and this was a great collection I can't believe I'd never read this one before. Stephen King is excellent at short stories, and this was a great collection. The only story I didn't like was Night Surf, the rest were good to great.Standouts for me:The ManglerThe BoogeymanBattlegroundThe LedgeQuitters, Inc.Children of the Corn (about a thousand times better than that crappy movie)The Last Rung on the LadderOne for the RoadNight Shift "The thing under my bed waiting to grab my ankle isn't real. I know that, and I also know that if I'm careful to keep my foot under the covers, it will never be able to grab my ankle. "This is the first time I have ever read a collection of stories and who better to start with than Mr. King. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel reading a bunch of separate stories compared to one whole tale. In the end I enjoyed it but was left wanting to feel a little more invested in the works as a whole. That is the reason for a four star rating over a five, because they're five star stories in this book. My favorite ones being The Last Rung on the Ladder, Children of the Corn, and One for the Road. Overall this was a pleasant experience and I will definitely read more collections but for now back to the novels.

Perfect! The book is amazing Perfect! The book is amazing, it has been on my wish list since last year and I totally raised my score to +700. The explanations are really good and they come along with exercises for each skill.Best Author. Best Author. Help me to boost my reading score.Amazing, Thorough Prep Book TL;DR: If you are a self-motivated person, I recommend buying this prep book due to the thorough explanations, good paper quality, and plenty of practice problems (with thorough explanations of the correct answers) albeit the textbook-like nature of the book. No pain, no gain!Let me preface by describing what kind of student I am. I am a rising junior that has self-motivation to study independently. I wanted to get a SAT Prep book that is higher quality than the run-of-the mill SAT Prep Books out there. For reference, I have read cover to cover the 2016 edition of the Kaplan SAT Prep book. Using that only, my PSAT score was 1350, 690 in Math and 660 in reading. For some, this is a good score. However, I wanted to push beyond that and perhaps score above a 1500. I have never went to any tutoring places.Along with this book, I am using the practice on Khan Academy. After my October 2017 test, I will try to update my review.Pros about this book:Very Thorough Explantions: Ms.Meltzer's explanation are very high quality and it is almost as if I have her by my side explaining the mistakes I made. I am not the most talented when it comes to English, however with Ms.Meltzer's explanation of the what the SAT test likes to regularly test, and the fundamentals of English, I feel like I am learning more from this book than I have done this past English class.Good Paper Quality: I don't know about anyone else, but I personally hate the flimsy, newspapery paper of the mass produced SAT Prep books (like Kaplan, Princeton, Barron's, etc). Just a personal preferencePlenty of Practice: The book is divided into chapters of study. In each chapter, there is an explanation of the concept, along with a couple of practice problems that Ms.Meltzer walks you through. As I said, the explanations are killer. What I like even more is that the chapter has EVEN MORE PRACTICE QUESTIONS at the back of the chapter, and it tests only on the topic you learned. For example, if the chapter is Vocabulary in Context, there is a couple Vocab in Context practice problems and then even more practice problems (with answers and explanations on a separate page) paired with full length articles. I really like this feature of the book.Cons:Price(?): At first I was a little hesitant on buying the book because of how expensive the book was relative to its pages (I purchase everything out of my pocket). However as I am 3/4th done with the book, I don't regret paying the price for the quality of this book.Textbook-Like: The only, ONLY, complaint I have about this book is that BECAUSE it is so thorough, the explanations can get a little dry, especially if you are working independently. I admit, there are times when I am self-studying and I get really bored reading after reading. But honestly, this is totally tolerable and doable. At first I was going to write the review AFTER I have taken my test and AFTER I received my score. However, because of the high quality nature of this book for a person like me, I wanted to give my two cents.

The Innocent Man Free Pdf

ISBN: B000JJ3SEM
Title: The Innocent Man Pdf Murder and Injustice in a Small Town

Number-one New York Times best seller

John Grisham's first work of nonfiction: a true crime story that will terrify anyone who believes in the presumption of innocence.

Soon to be a Netflix original documentary series

"Both an American tragedy and [Grisham's] strongest legal thriller yet, all the more gripping because it happens to be true." (Entertainment Weekly

In the town of Ada, Oklahoma, Ron Williamson was going to be the next Mickey Mantle. But on his way to the Big Leagues, Ron stumbled, his dreams broken by drinking, drugs, and women. Then, on a winter night in 1982, not far from Ron's home, a young cocktail waitress named Debra Sue Carter was savagely murdered. The investigation led nowhere. Until, on the flimsiest evidence, it led to Ron Williamson. The washed-up small-town hero was charged, tried, and sentenced to death - in a trial littered with lying witnesses and tainted evidence that would shatter a man's already broken life, and let a true killer go free.

Impeccably researched, grippingly told, filled with 11th-hour drama, this audio edition of The Innocent Man plays like an edge-of-your-seat legal thriller. It is a book no American can afford to miss.

"Grisham has crafted a legal thriller every bit as suspenseful and fast-paced as his best-selling fiction." (The Boston Globe)

"A gritty, harrowing true-crime story." (Time)

"A triumph." (The Seattle Times)

Not Ada, Oklahoma's, finest hour -- In this book, John Grisham abandoned his usual novel-writing and focused on one unfortunate man in a small city in Oklahoma. Already stigmatized as the town "burnout," once he was accused of murder there seemed to be no getting out of it, though the evidence for the crime was sketchy at best. While this book lacks the homeric intensity of Grisham's best fictions, it has a lot to say about how law enforcement can be used -- and misused -- to indict and persecute those whose chief sin seems to have been an ability to serve as a convenient scapegoat. Those of us who have seen documentaries and news reports about Steven Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey, in central Wisconsin will see the same sorry process at work in small-town Oklahoma. Now what, if anything, can be done about it?Incredible! The way Grisham develops each character and the raw emotion he paints these scenes with is simply mesmerizing. I literally felt like I was in the story being escorted through each scene like my own personal tour of life on death row all the way to the final moments leading to the execution. Just an awesome book. I actually felt myself grieving for this man as I read the final few chapters, praying for a miracle just like his lawyer/grandson. This is a winner that does not disappoint....enjoy!Too Long and Tedious This book, in which Grisham breaks away from fiction to write a true crime book, is too long and too complicated. I really struggled to finish it. It does reveal what can (and all too often does) go horribly wrong when the police think they have the right person (despite no evidence supporting the idea) ... but it goes on forever when you know about all you need to know very early on.Disappointing as I am a Grisham fan (normally).
